How safe is the electrical wiring in your home?
Did you know that if your home is more than 25 years old, the electrical wiring needed for your lights, cooker, and other electrical equipment and appliances may be unsafe? The wiring could be deteriorating and unable to cope with the requirements of a modern household and your home could catch fire because of faulty, unsafe wiring.
Ensure the electrical wiring in your home has been checked recently by a licenced electrician to make sure it is safe and poses no danger to your family, yourself and visitors.
Choosing and using the right electricianIf you are planning any electrical services, you must engage a registered electrical contractor (electrician).
- Always ask to see their license – it’s your guarantee that you’re working with someone who knows what they’re doing and gives you avenues for recourse should something go wrong.
- Whenever a licensed electrician completes any electrical installation work, they must provide a certificate of electrical safety. Make sure you receive this certificate upon completion of the electrical work.
- If your electrician does not show you his/her licence or does not issue you with a certificate of electrical safety, contact Energy Safe Victoria on 03 9203 9700.
